Introduction Blog

Hi everyone! My name is Sara and I am a concurrent enrollment student from Swallows Charter Academy and I'm still exploring my options, so I don't know what I want to major in yet. My hobbies include painting, not wearing a mask, stargazing and other dorky things. I also have 12 chickens and 5 turkeys, some of which will taste very good on this upcoming Thanksgiving.
The artwork I found is a Byzantine mosaic called the Sant' Apollinare in Classe near Ravenna, Italy. I was originally attracted to this artwork because of the intricacy. You have to place each piece of the mosaic with perfection in mind. What would you do if you took a step back and realized you misplaced something? You can't just restart and tear the building down like throwing a canvas away or wiping it off. Each piece had to be placed intentionally and individually to create an artwork.

I really love this too. You can just sit and wonder how people could have some much precision and patience to make stuff like this. It takes years to finish art such as the one you mentioned.
ReplyDeleteI will pray for your turkey's and chickens come thanksgiving. I agree with your thought on the piece, what if the person who commissioned it didnt like it? All the pieces are already there and how do you even take it down? scary
